MIA Art Collection in Istanbul: Dialogues That Illuminate Contemporary Art

MIA Art Collection participated in Contemporary Istanbul through two exceptional events that highlighted the role of women in the arts, the power of public interventions, and the ways in which artistic practice can redefine the social fabric of a city.

At the Elgiz Museum, a conversation with Leyla Alaton, Alejandra Castro Rioseco, Melis Buyruk and moderator Vittorio Urbani explored the persistent challenges faced by women artists—from economic precarity to structural inequality—and the pathways to visibility, recognition and empowerment in today’s art landscape.

The following day, at The Pavilion in Tersane Istanbul, Alejandra Castro Rioseco joined artist Grimanesa Amorós for a profound dialogue on the impact of artistic interventions in iconic buildings. Together with artist Sarp Kerem Yavuz, they reflected on how light, space and architecture converge to create works that not only transform public environments but also expand collective imagination and foster a deeper connection to contemporary culture in Istanbul.

A wonderful experience with @contemporaryistanbul, @grimanesaamoros and @sarpkeremyavuz—an inspiring exchange on the social, cultural and emotional resonance of art in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
