Conversation at NYUAD

Conversation on gender and the arts with MIA Art Collection founder and director, Alejandra Castro Rioseco at @nyuabudhabi

Alejandra is the director and founder of MIA art collection, a private collection based in the UAE. Alejandra and MIA uniquely represent women artists and have supported and empowered countless artists from around the world.

These workshops will consist of conversations around gender and the arts in our community. We believe that through conversation we can collectively discover and challenge our beliefs. We will discuss how being female-identifying can shape your development in the arts, from artist to curator to collector to student, and so on.

In order to support artists through the global pandemic, MIA has launched a virtual museum that includes weekly exhibitions by diverse women artists. These workshops will often include featured artists as guest speakers.

I would like to highlight again the nature of these workshops as a dynamic and inclusive space for students to be curious about what working in the art world looks like and how gender affects this; Alejandra is extremely knowledgeable as well as candid about her many experiences as a collector, curator, director and more.

The first conversation will take place on Thursday, November 19th from 16:00 to 17:30 via Zoom.

To RSVP, please comment your net id or send us an email; the zoom meeting link will be sent closer to the date. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback please don’t hesitate to contact us.

UPDATE:

Thank you to all the students who were part of this!
