MIA Anywhere Virtual Museum Retrospective

MIA Anywhere Virtual Museum presents its retrospective virtual exhibition, showcasing the work of all the artists who have been through this initiative founded by philanthropist Alejandra Castro Rioseco in 2020, as support and visibility for women artists during the pandemic.

Almost two years have passed since the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic started. Museums and galleries are the places where people connect with their culture and its history, but the coronavirus has impeded that vital connection. The loss of significant part of the audience made almost impossible organize events in the usual way, having a huge impact on women artists.

According to data from the UNESCO, Covid-19 temporarily closed 85.000 museums globally. After the pandemic, it is expected that one third of all museums could downsize, and nearly 13% may not reopen ever again. Closures will be uneven across the globe and have dramatics impacts for all the art community, especially the women artists.

As Art has the power to connect, heal, define periods and builds groups of supportive people, we decided to make available, through our social media networks, a platform that could help these women artists, to help them make their work visible through virtual exhibitions during the pandemic, as a way of support in those challenging moments.

Since that moment, 130 women artists have passed through the MIA Anywhere Virtual Museum, adjusting to a new concept of virtuality, being able to be watched from any part of the world for free and erasing the physical borders and let people from all ages and cultures to access directly through their phones to art created by women.

In this virtual exhibition, we are showing the work of each one of these artists who have been part of our virtual museum across the globe, for over almost two years, and how a community of women artists can grow, create and support each other.

This virtual exhibition is going to be open available for you to see since September 07 and for all the month, until Friday October 1st. Go to miaanywhere.com to see our virtual exhibition, and you can also go to miaartcollection.org to know more about our art collection.
