MIA Art Collection announces ” اﻟﺟﻣﺎل – La Belleza”: Poetry and Art

A new art exhibition in collaboration with DIFC, and the Emirates Literature Foundation. The Exhibition is open to the public from May 14th to June 14th at DIFC WEST GATE.

MIA ART COLLECTION, in collaboration with Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the THE EMIRATES LITERATURE FOUNDATION, brings “LA BELLEZA – اﻟﺟﻣﺎل : Poetry & Art”, an innovative and exceptional exhibition curated by a team of international curators directed by Alejandra Castro Rioseco with special co-curator Namal Siddiqui, in DIFC’s iconic The Gate building, delivering a month full of poetry and international art.

This is the second exhibition this year by MIA ART Collection in collaboration with the DIFC, Dubai’s most sought-after business and lifestyle destination and is a first active collaboration with The Emirates Literature Foundation, home of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, a not for profit non-governmental organization that supports and nurtures a love of literature in the UAE and across the region through a program of varied cultural initiatives with a focus on introducing and cultivating a spirit of reading while acting as a catalyst for writing and cultural exchange.

The exhibition is inspired by the vital need to connect with the sensitivity and beauty of the simple, from the minimum to what sublimely passes before our eyes in everyday life, daily examples of everyday acts that when transformed into poetry turn into something beautiful. The exhibition includes 19 artists and poets, and a curatorial line based on literature as a cornerstone of the beauty of culture. Once again the exhibition combines new art works with works from the MIA Art Collection, the DIFC collection and new pieces by poets and artists, to create an aesthetically beautiful and deeply sensitive exhibition.

MIA Art Collection’s view on art and culture undoubtedly includes the direct line between art and poetry. Historically, art and poetry have been related and have been fundamental to the training of artists in the world, especially in this region. Poetry and the role it played in trying to sensibilize the world of its banalities will take on value in this exhibition, that seeks to integrate poetry and art and unify them through this wonderful journey that contemplates historical and outstanding poets from the world of art, giving special emphasis to women poets and their role in the society of poets of the Arab world, one of the cradles of poetry and prose.

The world of art teaches us that the vast majority of the art pieces that we see in museums are pieces by male artists while the woman’s gaze therein is almost non-existent. Once again, driven by its mission to promote visibility of women artists in the world, MIA ART Collection choses to highlight the delicate space within the galaxies of arts taken by literature and poetry, and in doing so allows us to reflect on our current reality of women artists and their visibility.

.SERENDIPITY Art Exhibition by MIA Art Collection

Serendipity or “the magic of finding something while looking for something else”, a simple and wonderful word that has its origin in the Arabic vocabulary, opens our eyes away from an immediate reality to a possible dream still concealed.

Curated by the MIA Art Collection team under direction of the founder Alejandra Castro Rioseco, SERENDIPITY is a journey across more than 30 works of art of over 10 countries in the Middle East region, each work carefully selected for their value and thematic relationship to reflect the viewpoint of MIA ART Collection of respect and admiration for women artists, their work and their trajectory.

El Precio del Arte – Conversation at ARCO Madrid 2022

Art bears a reasonable resemblance to the world of soccer. It is a world full of glamour and abysmal inequalities. The stars who shine with their own light fill their paychecks with astronomical figures while the team players, the bulk of the creators, struggle to make ends meet and even have to combine their creative work with other jobs.

Is creative work seen as a real job? Or is it simply seen as a hobby? Is this disregard for art the same for all artists or is it clearly sexist? The art market is not only made up of creators, other agents no less important make it up.

It is difficult to make a living from art without public or private commissions, sales, exhibitions. The protagonists in this case must be the public commissioners, the gallery owners or collectors who decide to buy and sell and make some of the artists visible. Is it the market that sets the trend or risk-taking gallerists and collectors? Is there a trend towards male art? Is there a trend? Does the price of the work vary if it is the work of a female artist? Do female gallerists and collectors bet more on female artists or, as Louise Bourgeois used to say, do these female gallerists reject outright the art of their female counterparts?

In technical work, do we see an abrupt difference between men and women? Since the restoration of works of art is mostly done by women, is this a key factor?

MIA ART Collection in the framework of the international fair ARCO proposes to develop a conversation between the different agents of the world of artistic creation to achieve answers, ideas, notions, strategies, currents about the price or value of art with a clear vision of gender. Thinking about how artists are valued when exhibiting, participating in fairs and / or private exhibitions for this conversation.
